Kidsfirst Early Childhood Centre respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the traditional territories of the Katzie (q̓ic̓əy̓) First Nation and Kwantlen (qw̓ɑ:nƛ̓ə̓n̓) First Nation.
We believe that it's important to ensure that authentic and genuine information is passed on to the children so that they can better understand their world and the land on which they live and play.
We believe that each child is born precious and sacred, that they are capable, and that building relationships with them — based on trust and respect — is key to their growth and development.
In our school, we take guidance from BC's Early Learning Framework, the Reggio Emilia approach, and the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
We believe that children are capable and provide opportunities for them to complete tasks independently. Play is children's work; we see the importance of it being authentic and uninterrupted.
While children work and explore, it allows time for observation of their abilities, strengths, and interests. From these observations we reflect and plan our curriculum.
Feeling a sense of safety is crucial to a person's comfort and ability to thrive. Therefore, it is our intention to be a safe place for all children.
Our school is inclusive to children and families of all abilities, cultures, dynamics, and socioeconomic status. We work closely with our Licensing Officer to ensure that all regulations are followed, our policies are up-to-date, and our environment is safe.
By working with families, our Supported Child Development (SCD) consultant and other professionals, we ensure that no child is excluded from participating. We aim to be as culturally competent as possible through ongoing research and training.
At this time, English is the main spoken language in our school. We also incorporate the use of:
We strive to expand our exposure to language in an effort to be more inclusive within our community.
